Background

PCCW Solutions was awarded the contract to design, supply and implement the core system and system infrastructure, and provision of on-going maintenance service of the Next Generation Electronic Passport System (e-Passport-2) for the Immigration Department.

Solutions

The e-Passport-2 system incorporates sophisticated security and authentication technologies, such as facial recognition and fingerprint verification. Various enhancement initiatives were implemented under the e-Passport-2 system, such as supporting more channels for passport applications from self-service kiosk, web-based platform to mobile application. Bookings can also be made through the Internet or by the telephone via the Interactive Voice Response System, streamlining the processes with greater convenience.

Through upgrading the underlying technologies and replacement of hardware and software, it expands e-Passport-2 system’s capacity to cater for projected workload for at least ten years and provide a more convenient and speedier service to the public in travel document application.

Value created

PCCW Solutions leverages cutting-edge digital technologies to empower omni-channel digital services to the public with greater convenience and better citizen experience. The e-Passport-2 system also optimises the entire process through various improvement initiatives, such as providing more digital payment options to the public.

The e-Passport-2 system provides a modern and reliable platform for issuing highly secure passport, and therefore bolstering overseas authorities’ confidence in granting HKSAR passport holders visa-free access to their countries and regions.
